We recently caught up with several of our Perimeter School alumni, and we are excited to share with you how Perimeter School has influenced their stories and how God is using them for kingdom impact.

Our next alumni spotlight is August Griffith, Perimeter School Class of 2004.

What do you do? Where do you live?

I am the Director of Women Business Leaders in Birmingham, Alabama. WBL is a non-profit, interdenominational ministry that serves women in the marketplace.

How Did your time at Perimeter School influencE who you are and what you do today?

Perimeter School played a tremendous role in establishing my faith. I have vivid memories of Bible class.

Studying the Bible in the classroom gave me a hunger to know the Word and apply it to my life. 

I think of the Great Commandment in Matthew 22, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all of your mind.” Perimeter taught me to love the Lord with my mind. In my current job, I get to help establish and equip women to know God through personal Bible study. I have no doubt Perimeter School nurtured this passion in my life!

"If it weren't for Perimeter School, I wouldn't know . . .”

If it weren’t for Perimeter School, I wouldn’t know that I could do hard things. So many of my favorite Perimeter School memories are from P.E., recess, and sports practices. They were always lots of fun, but man, we did some HARD THINGS! Running c-loops and suicide drills at basketball practice, v-sits for the Presidential Fitness Award, BATTLE BALL … the list goes on and on! Those physical challenges pushed me to do hard things with my friends and teammates. It taught me that delight is on the other side of discipline.

In what ways is the work you are doing now spiritually and culturally Significant?

Women Business Leaders exists to love the under-served working woman. Our mission is to transform the marketplace by pointing women to Christ, encouraging them in their faith, and helping them make a difference in their workplace and home for God’s glory. 

Fifty-one percent of the workforce is made up of women. As more and more women step into leadership positions, there is an incredible opportunity for them to impact the kingdom of God. I long for women to rest in Christ as they strive in their jobs. 

I long for them to steward their careers well and to make God’s name great in the midst of a culture that says “you can have it all!” Without fellowship and support, I’m afraid hard-working women are headed to burnout and disappointment. I fear this because I experienced it, and I understand the feelings of isolation. I hope and pray that God will continue to use WBL to draw women to Himself and equip them to connect their work to His work.
