Alumni Spotlight: Hannah Ormond

By: Hannah Ormond, PERIMETER SCHOOL alum And fifth grade teacher

We recently caught up with several of our Perimeter School alumni, and we are excited to share with you how Perimeter School has influenced their stories and how God is using them for kingdom impact.

Our next alumni spotlight is Hannah Ormond, Perimeter School Class of 2014.

WHAT DO YOU DO? WHERE DO YOU LIVE?

I am a first-year, fifth grade teacher at Perimeter School. I graduated with my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in elementary education, with a specialization in gifted education, from the University of Georgia, and I am living in Peachtree Corners.

HOW DID YOUR TIME AT PERIMETER SCHOOL INFLUENCE WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU DO TODAY?

My time at Perimeter School allowed me to fall in love with learning, which led to my desire to become a teacher and encourage students to also love learning. At Perimeter School, I grew in my relationship with God as my teachers encouraged my academic and spiritual self.

In fourth grade, my first year at Perimeter School, Jean McConaughy was my teacher. She truly changed my life! When I decided that I wanted to pursue a career in education, I knew I wanted to be a teacher like Ms. McConaughy. As I have transitioned into teaching, she has remained a significant role model.

My years studying education reinforced to me that Perimeter School’s methods of teaching are the richest, most holistic forms of learning for a student, so it is a dream come true to return to this incredible school.

"IF IT WEREN'T FOR PERIMETER SCHOOL, I WOULDN'T KNOW . . .”

If it weren’t for Perimeter School, I wouldn’t know true friendship. The girls who were my best friends at Perimeter School are still the closest friends in my life! We grew up together in school and were in a discipleship group through Perimeter Church all the way through high school. We stayed in touch through college, despite long distances, and now that we have all moved back to Atlanta, we are meeting as a discipleship group again! I know that the Lord put these friends in my life, and I would not know them without Perimeter School.

IN WHAT WAYS IS THE WORK YOU ARE DOING NOW SPIRITUALLY AND CULTURALLY SIGNIFICANT?

Being able to teach students with God as the focus of each subject is a work that is spiritually significant for the lives of these kids. I am so thankful to work in an environment where I am free to share God’s love with these students and weave truth into every subject. In a culture where truth has become relative, it is crucial that we provide children with foundations of truth, knowledge of scripture, and an understanding of how God is present in all areas and subjects. I am hoping that my students will become powerful voices for truth and love in our world.
