Where Students Learn to Serve

By: Aubrie Crais, Perimeter School service project coordinator

Our vision is that Perimeter School would be a covenant Christian community where students know they are loved, love to learn, and learn to serve. In an effort to encourage our students to learn to serve, we set aside three school days each year to serve.

And our most recent Service Project Day on March 7 was such a blessing to our community! 136 parents served alongside our students that day to bless 25 different Community Outreach partners … and most classes were able to serve off-campus for the first time in two years!

Where We Served

Our students served at assisted living facilities, visited the Johns Creek Police Department, stuffed Easter eggs and made Easter baskets for the Salvation Army and Rainbow Village, put together PB&J sandwich meals for the homeless with the PJ Man project (click here to see our students and parents serving with the PJ Man Project), stocked food pantries, sorted recycling, worked in thrift stores, and did outdoor clean-up and landscaping at Friends of Refugees.

In addition, our eighth grade students participated in the Poverty Simulation organized by North Fulton Community Charities where they were able to explore the challenges that families in poverty face every day.

“My daughter attended the Poverty Simulation for eighth grade. She could not stop talking about it and said it’s one of the best things she’s done. I love that we incorporate these types of activities at Perimeter School. I’m sure you can imagine that sometimes a 13-year-old doesn’t have much to say about what happened at school, but this was definitely the exception. I hope they can keep doing this simulation at the school for the kids to experience.”

Responses From our Community Partners

“We wanted to say ‘Thank You’ for sharing the second grade class with us. Our residents thoroughly enjoyed having them here. They were a joy to have in our facility, and they brought smiles to everyone's faces today. We are so thankful that you thought of us, and we are very much looking forward to having them back anytime. I also wanted to give a big, huge ‘Thank You’ to the parents that came along.”

“I would like to personally thank all of you so much for providing your time and services to Rainbow Village this week. We truly appreciate your support, and we hope you enjoyed getting to know more about what it is we do here. We are very excited to continue this wonderful partnership with Perimeter School and look forward to when we will be able to see you all again!”
