Alumni Spotlight: Katherine (Reece) Waken
By: Katherine (Reece) Waken, PERIMETER SCHOOL alum
We recently caught up with several of our Perimeter School alumni, and we are excited to share with you how Perimeter School has influenced their stories and how God is using them for kingdom impact.
Our next alumni spotlight is Katherine (Reece) Waken, Perimeter School Class of 2006.
What do you do? Where do you live?
I live in Peachtree Corners, and I work as a client care consultant at Booster.
How Did your time at Perimeter School influencE who you are and what you do today?
The biggest impact that Perimeter School made on my life is the friendships that were fostered through my years as a student. Now, in my 30s, I have best friends who are like-minded women that have known me since I was six years old. We were raised and taught in a safe, loving environment that allowed us to grow in our faith together.
The bond that Perimeter School creates is unparalleled. To know that I always have women in my corner with a shared history and a shared faith is a gift that I wouldn't have if I hadn't gone to Perimeter School.
"If it weren't for Perimeter School, I wouldn't know . . .”
If it weren't for Perimeter School, I wouldn't have experienced God's faithfulness in a larger context. My husband knows Jesus because of former Perimeter School students who befriended him and shared the gospel with him. That led him to work at Camp All-American. That led to us meeting, dating, getting married, and having two beautiful children.
God has used Perimeter School in mighty ways in our lives and in our marriage.
We may never have met if God didn't use this school and its people to bring us to know the Lord.
In what ways is the work you are doing now spiritually and culturally Significant?
Now, I have the privilege of partnering with schools across the state of Georgia to bring fitness, character, and much-needed funds to their communities. I work with both private Christian schools and public schools.
Each day, I have the opportunity to be excellent in my work, caring in the way I interact with my clients and my team, and faithful in what God has put in front of me. That has given schools the ability to raise millions of dollars for their budgets and has allowed us to have a positive impact on millions of students across the state. I get to see a little piece of God's kingdom come "in Atlanta as it is in Heaven" on a daily basis through the work I do with amazing people.
God shows up in our messy places and transforms ordinary moments into holy ones.
