Remember and Rejoice

We began this school year praying that our covenant community would seek a rhythm that resonates with the light and love of Jesus, amplified by our fellowship with God and one another – full of joy and found through the daily steps of dependence and repentance.
What none of us knew then was how God would be at work calling us to dependence and repentance and cultivating fellowship and joy in ways we could never have imagined.
While the end of our school year has been hard on many levels and full of new trials to navigate, it has also brought many new gifts and opportunities to tune our hearts to the unchanging faithfulness of our God. His character cannot be moved. He is the light that overcomes the darkness and the love that binds up our brokenness.
I pray That the treasures we’ve discovered During this season will continue to inform our priorities when we come together again for the start of a new school year!
As we continue to plan for our campus and classrooms to be open on August 10 in accordance with the appropriate guidelines, we know families may have different perspectives on when and how we should reopen. Now, especially, is an opportunity to maintain and even pursue loving one another well as a covenant family.
“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.”
“No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us.”
1 John 4:7, 12
A COMMUNITY DEFINED BY LOVE AND UNITY
Our call to love each other requires patience and humility. Fear and frustration are opportunities for division. As Paul urges the church, “walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” I pray that the strength of our covenant community will continue to be defined by love and unity.
I’m grateful for the countless ways our faculty and families have continued to cultivate fellowship (either on Zoom or from a safe social distance) and joy (through a handwritten notes or drive-by parades) throughout this pandemic. This season has certainly shown the strength and beauty of our covenant community.
REMEMBER AND REJOICE
God calls His people to remember and rejoice in every season and circumstance. After God led His people across the Jordan River, the Israelites stacked twelve stones as a memorial to mark God’s promise and provision for His people.
“…that this may be a sign among you. When your children ask in time to come, ‘What do those stones mean to you?’ then you shall tell them that the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD. When it passed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. So these stones shall be to the people of Israel a memorial forever.”
Joshua 4:6-7
WHAT WILL WE REMEMBER?
What will your family remember most about this time? How can you rejoice in who God is and what He has done even during difficult seasons? Let me encourage you to talk about it as a family and mark these memories in a way you can remember when the busyness of our former lives seeks to cloud the lessons we see so clearly now.
Have a wonderful summer! We can’t wait to be together again this fall! Stay tuned for updates later this summer with further details regarding our planned re-opening on August 10.
Jesus came in the still and calm of the night.
