Alumni Spotlight: Mark Sawyer
By: Mark Sawyer, PERIMETER SCHOOL alum
We recently caught up with several of our Perimeter School alumni, and we are excited to share with you how Perimeter School has influenced their stories and how God is using them for kingdom impact.
Our next alumni spotlight is Mark Sawyer, Perimeter School Class of 2009.
What do you do? Where do you live?
I live in Washington, D.C. where I work in international development and foreign aid programs.
How Did your time at Perimeter School influencE who you are and what you do today?
Perimeter School made a lasting impression on my view of Scripture as my primary source of life, guidance, and wisdom.
Each of my teachers brought the Bible into the classroom in unique and purposeful ways, and I saw how God's Truth can be found in every subject we studied.
"If it weren't for Perimeter School, I wouldn't know . . .”
… how to write well. Writing has been a vital skill for my studies and work, and journaling has been a valuable practice that I have continued even after my time at Perimeter School. I specifically remember the eighth grade capstone research paper as one of the many assignments that honed my ability to articulate thoughts in writing.
In what ways is the work you are doing now spiritually and culturally Significant?
I love how my work helps leaders use their countries’ resources for the common good.
I put a lot of my identity at Perimeter School in academic achievement, but I am thankful that my teachers were just as concerned with my character development and my faith. That foundation helped me later realize that God cares about how I reflect Christ as a worker even more than He cares about the impact and significance of my work.
God shows up in our messy places and transforms ordinary moments into holy ones.
