Alumni Spotlight: Ryan Brown

My teachers didn’t only care about what I learned, they cared about who I was as a child of God.

By: Ryan Brown, Perimeter School alum

We recently caught up with several of our Perimeter School alumni, and we are excited to share with you how Perimeter School has influenced their stories and how God is using them for kingdom impact.

Our next alumni spotlight is Ryan Brown, Perimeter School Class of 1999.

WHAT DO YOU DO? WHERE DO YOU LIVE?

I am the Pastor of Discipleship at Perimeter Church and a Director of Life on Life Ministries.

HOW DID YOUR TIME AT PERIMETER SCHOOL INFLUENCE WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU DO TODAY?

In so many ways, discipleship was the core of my experience at Perimeter Church and School growing up. My teachers didn’t only care about what I learned, they cared about who I was as a child of God. As they taught me, they also loved me. They cared about my growth in Christlikeness as much as my growth academically. Discipleship is primarily a relationship that is centered on the truth of God’s Word, and it leads towards maturity in Christ. This was my experience at Perimeter School. The teacher-student relationship wasn’t an academic theory as a means to get ahead, it was a life lived by my teachers in such a way that I knew I was cared for holistically.

"IF IT WEREN'T FOR PERIMETER SCHOOL, I WOULDN'T KNOW . . .”

Some of the most significant friends and mentors in my life today.

IN WHAT WAYS IS THE WORK YOU ARE DOING NOW SPIRITUALLY AND CULTURALLY SIGNIFICANT?

I work with pastors and church leaders throughout the world to help start discipleship movements in their churches. It is quite common for churches to have an educational model that is unintentionally void of deep relationships in the spiritual growth process. It is our hope - both at Perimeter Church and through Life on Life Ministries - that we can help churches recover a gospel-rooted, relational discipleship model that reflects the life and ministry of Jesus.
