Alumni Spotlight: Jenn Richardson

I was given so many opportunities to grow, become, explore, and ask questions.

By: Jenn (Russ) Richardson, PERIMETER SCHOOL alum

We recently caught up with several of our Perimeter School alumni, and we are excited to share with you how Perimeter School has influenced their stories and how God is using them for kingdom impact.

Our next alumni spotlight is Jenn Richardson, Perimeter School Class of 2003.

What do you do? Where do you live?

I currently live in Jacksonville, Florida where I am a wife, mom, mentor, and worship leader.

How Did your time at Perimeter School influencE who you are and what you do today?

Perimeter School is one of the defining pieces of my life and a major contributor to who I am as a person today. It’s honestly hard to know where to start. I think the biggest takeaway from the school was feeling the investment from the teachers. I knew that they didn’t care about my academics alone. My character, and ultimately my soul, was their priority.

My third grade teacher taught me how to love others, my fifth grade teacher taught me confidence, my sixth grade teacher ignited my passion for history and reading, my seventh grade teacher taught me grace, and my principal Mary Hubbard guided me in prayer journaling and eventually mentored me through high school.

I was given so many opportunities to grow, become, explore, and ask questions. And I felt so loved by the staff! Who can say that about their school experience?

"If it weren't for Perimeter School, I wouldn't know . . .”

If it weren't for Perimeter School, I wouldn't know the richness of scripture. Seventh and eighth grade Bible class specifically honed in on the depth of scripture. The concepts and lessons I learned in those classes have exceeded what most of my adults friends know at this point in their 30s.

When I share different ideas with my small group, they ask, "How do you know that?" Often, I can refer it back to middle school Bible class! I’m forever thankful for the foundation it set for my faith.

In what ways is the work you are doing now spiritually and culturally Significant?

Parenting in and of itself is a work of the gospel … a call to die to self daily. But outside of parenting, I am currently mentoring two young adult women in our church. I find joy and passion in leading worship during our Sunday morning service at our PCA church here in Jacksonville.

Last year, my husband and I followed a very specific calling from the Lord to fly out to France (as the travel ban was announced) and record French worship music. There has been a stirring in France, and right now there is a great need for contemporary Christian music in French. We are so excited to be releasing the full album of eight songs!

During her time at Perimeter School and Perimeter Church, Jenn was able to grow and develop the gifts and talents she now displays as a worship leader. Come see our current students explore their giftedness in the fall production, “Peter Pan and Wendy,” this Thursday at 4:00 PM and Friday at 4:00 and 7:00 PM in the Hanger at Perimeter Church.

We love to see how our students use their gifts to honor the Lord at and when they leave Perimeter School.
