Alumni Spotlight: Sarah (Henderson) Durrance
By: Sarah (Henderson) Durrance, PERIMETER SCHOOL alum
We recently caught up with several of our Perimeter School alumni, and we are excited to share with you how Perimeter School has influenced their stories and how God is using them for kingdom impact.
Our next alumni spotlight is Sarah (Henderson) Durrance, Perimeter School Class of 2012.
What do you do? Where do you live?
I live in Berkeley Lake, and I work as a clinical mental health therapist at Simplify Life Counseling.
How Did your time at Perimeter School influencE who you are and what you do today?
I am confident that Perimeter School played a huge role in my desire to work with people searching for growth, wholeness, and peace.
During my time at Perimeter School, I was encouraged to think outside of myself and about the needs of others. Specifically, I am thankful for service projects because I believe they led me to further develop an empathic perspective of the needs of the world. Ultimately, Perimeter School showed me the beauty and purpose of serving hurting individuals like Christ did during His time on earth and like He still does through His Spirit.
"If it weren't for Perimeter School, I wouldn't know . . .”
If it weren't for Perimeter School, I wouldn't know the beauty of a community that is centered on Christ.
I am so grateful for the body of people who poured into me during my time at Perimeter School.
In what ways is the work you are doing now spiritually and culturally Significant?
I work primarily with individuals who are experiencing anxiety, depression, spiritual issues, eating disorders, and attachment and relational issues.
In my work with clients, I make it a priority to view the client as an individual made in the image of God and not someone who is solely a product of his/her current or past circumstances. I find that God is immensely present in therapy, and I feel so honored that I get to accompany individuals on their journey of growth!
In a world that consistently promotes doing better and trying harder, I find it sacred to enter an environment where you can let your defenses down, receive support, and join another individual as he/she walks towards healing. Through my education and training, I have come to embrace the intertwined nature of science and faith. I am passionate about the true definition of psychology being “the study of the soul.”
Join us next Friday, March 3, at 8:30 AM, in Midtown Auditorium. Sarah (along with Hannah Rinehart, Professional Counselor and Perimeter School Parent) will discuss the topic of Addressing Worry and Anxiety: Our Kids’ Emotional Health. Click here to learn more about this event.
