Together, We Are Ambassadors for Christ
By: Jeremy Case, HEAD OF SCHOOL
I hope you found last week’s equipping from Paul David Tripp to be both encouraging and challenging as we consider our role as parents and God’s plan to bring about transformation in our children and in our own hearts. Our children don’t need perfect parents but rather parents who steward the unique position to which God has called us and who continually surrender to His plan to redeem and raise up His covenant children.
There’s a lot of wisdom in Tripp’s brief video. It’s worth another viewing, but here are a few nuggets that speak to the strength, beauty, and purpose of the Perimeter School covenant community as we seek to live out our calling as parents together.
OUR POSITION AS PARENTS
“Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”
2 Corinthians 5:20-21
Our position in God’s kingdom is an ambassador, a representative of our King not only to the ends of the earth but also our home, not only to the culture around us but also our classrooms.
“Everything a parent does, everything a parent says in every moment and every day in the life of the child is meant to be representative … it’s always [the parent] representing the message, methods, and character of the King.”
Paul David Tripp
GOD’S PLAN FOR OUR FAMILIES
“A family isn’t meant to be comfortable. A family is meant to be transformational.”
Paul David Tripp
God has intended to use His ambassadors to show His covenant children a beautiful picture of His divine grace leading to their surrender and submission to His will and His ways.
“Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.'“
Deuteronomy 6:4-7
Our Covenant Calling
This covenant calling centers on the family but comes in the context of the corporate body of God’s covenant people. Our philosophy of education is rooted in the belief that the shared, covenantal roles of the home, school, and church working together creates the best atmosphere for nurturing children.
The family was meant to be transformational, and our covenant family is intentional in our desire to be a covenant community who strives together to educate and disciple our students to live according to God’s Word by embracing the truth of the gospel. We believe that together we can better educate, equip, and encourage our children to glorify and enjoy God.
To faithfully live out our covenant calling together, we must individually affirm the commitment it requires, the blessing it creates, and the opportunity it brings for gospel transformation.
BEING CHRIST’S AMBASSADORS TOGETHER REQUIRES COMMITMENT.
A commitment to biblical parenting in our homes.
A commitment to the educational philosophy of Perimeter School.
A commitment to intentional participation in the covenant community.
A commitment to faithful partnership with the covenant family.
BEING CHRIST’S AMBASSADORS TOGETHER CREATES COMMUNITY.
A community who cares for one another and seeks to bind up the brokenhearted among us.
A community who celebrates God’s faithfulness and provision together.
A community that calls us and our children to believe and live the gospel.
A community that cultivates fellowship and joy as we grow and belong together.
BEING CHRIST’S AMBASSADORS TOGETHER BRINGS THE OPPORTUNITY FOR TRANSFORMATION IN OUR HOMES AND CLASSROOMS.
An opportunity to live surrendered to God’s plan and submissive in our position as His ambassadors.
An opportunity to serve to make Christ’s invisible kingdom visible in every moment.
An opportunity to steward each unique image-bearer in his/her gifts, talents, abilities, and callings.
An opportunity to strive toward greater maturity in Christ for our children, parents, and teachers.
Let’s spend some time prayerfully reaffirming our desire to live out this commitment together. Will you join me this week in praying that God will continue to deepen and strengthen our covenant family as we each reaffirm our commitment to rely upon God to educate and disciple our children together?
THE COVENANT COMMUNITY PLEDGE
As a professed member of the covenant family of Perimeter School and acknowledging my role as the primary educator of my children, I hereby recognize my inadequacy to raise up covenant children alone. I pledge with this community to be actively present, vulnerable, teachable, and prayerful. I promise to pursue opportunities made available by Perimeter School to equip and bring all of us to greater maturity in Christ. I view this commitment not as a burden, but as a privilege to take advantage of these critical years of growth and learning in our children. This pledge expresses the desire of my heart, and I depend on Him for strength and joy in its fulfillment.
Perimeter School parents, re-enrollment is now open on Family Portal. Please check your inbox for an email that invites you to re-enroll for the 2021 - 2022 school year.
