Impact for Eternity Part II
By: CLINT FISHER, DEAN OF STUDENTS AND FAMILIES
At Perimeter School, our purpose is to educate and equip generations of students and families to glorify God and pursue kingdom flourishing. Throughout this school year, our goal is to equip you as parents to lead family devotions. For more about the heart behind this initiative, revisit part one of this blog from earlier this year.
We started with a ten-second, “you can’t fail” devotion, which introduced God's Word and worship. These are the foundations of family devotions. Watch this video that models how to do this.
Next, we added to this basic devotion by reading a paragraph of scripture and praying through A.C.T.S.
Adoration - Thank God for something about who He is.
Confession - Model authentic confession.
Thanksgiving - Thank God for all He has given to you.
Supplication - Ask God for what you need and desire, as well as pray for others.
Be sure to watch this video that models this step.
PUSHING PRAYER OUTSIDE OF DEVOTIONS
“If the simple truths of the Bible are the way God talks to us, the other side of that coin is teaching our children to talk back to God. This is prayer.”
- Justin Earley, Habits of the Household
Now, in the next step, we encourage you to model prayer for your children in everyday situations outside your family devotions. This can be implemented in simple ways: praying to find a lost set of car keys, praying for an upcoming test on the way to school, or praying at the park after a tumble. Let them see that prayer is not something we need to get ourselves cleaned up for, in the right attitude for, or in the right mood for. God is approachable!
We simply pray and let the Holy Spirit do the necessary work in us and through us.

Save the date for our Campus Meeting/Equipping Night on Monday, January 22! Justin Earley, author of Habits of the Household, will expand upon these ideas of family devotions and share ways we can cultivate a nurturing and faith-filled environment in our homes that shapes our children’s hearts for eternal impact.
